Zebulon's water system is owned by the City of Raleigh, which maintains water lines up to the property line; the line from there to the house is the owner's responsibility. A plumber can locate a leak on that private stretch and repair or replace it. Call the number on this page to be connected with a local plumber in Zebulon.

What a failing line looks like
- Grass that stays green and lush in one strip during a dry spell
- Water pressure that sank all at once across the house
- A meter that keeps turning when nothing is running
- Mud or pooling near the edge of the property where the meter sits
- Knocking or rushing sounds in the walls when no fixtures are on
Zebulon's water and its houses
Zebulon is one of the six Raleigh Water merger communities, with the merger in effect since 2006. Water comes from Falls Lake and Lake Benson, and Raleigh's rule on service lines applies here: the City maintains water lines up to the property line, and the owner is responsible from there to the house. A leak in the street or right at the meter is Raleigh Water's to look at. Outlying 27597 addresses beyond Raleigh's lines may be on private wells instead, where the whole buried line belongs to the owner.
Zebulon's houses fall into two groups. About a quarter were built before 1980, while roughly 41% have gone up since 2010. Older homes near the historic district can have aging metal service pipe; newer subdivisions mostly have plastic lines that fail at fittings, at spots where construction equipment compacted the soil, or where a later project cut into them. Raleigh Water says it has never found a lead service pipe in its system.
What drives the cost
- Where the leak is. Near the meter, near the house or somewhere in between changes how much yard gets opened.
- Repair or replace. Old metal pipe often isn't worth patching.
- Obstacles. Driveways, fences and landscaping over the route.
- Paperwork. Zebulon residents apply through the Town, and Wake County performs permitting and inspections.
When you reach a plumber
We're a referral line connecting Zebulon callers with independent local plumbers, not a plumbing company. Describe where the water is surfacing and how the pressure has changed. If water is flowing hard, close the shutoff where the line enters the house, and call Raleigh Water if the leak looks like it's on the public side. Your private line isn't marked by 811, so the plumber will locate it.
