Most Apex homes are recent, so sewer line repairs here are more often a shifted joint, a sag from settled soil or a stubborn blockage than worn-out pipe. A camera inspection shows which and where. Call the number on this page to be connected with a local plumber in Apex.

What's under Apex yards
The Town of Apex owns its sewer system and treats wastewater through 9.8 MGD of combined capacity at its Middle Creek facility and the Western Wake Regional Water Reclamation Facility, which it shares with Cary and Morrisville. The Town owns and maintains the public side of the service line, and the property owner owns and maintains the private side.
Apex housing is some of the newest in the Triangle: the median home was built in 2008, and fewer than 4% predate 1980. Most private lines here are plastic pipe that won't rust or crack with age the way older materials do. Trouble usually comes from installation and soil instead: backfill that settled and left a belly where waste collects, a joint that pulled apart, damage from later landscaping or fence work, or wipes and grease. The older homes around the downtown historic district are the exception and can have the root and corrosion problems typical of older pipe.
Apex is also stricter than many towns on permits. Its permit guide says same-size water and drain line replacement needs a permit, so expect a sewer repair to go through Town of Apex Building Inspections and Permitting.
Repair options at a glance
| Problem the camera finds | Usual fix | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Grease or wipes blockage | Cleaning or hydro jetting | No repair needed if the pipe itself is sound |
| Separated or offset joint | Spot repair at the joint | Small dig at the marked location |
| Belly (sag) in the line | Re-lay the section at proper slope | Lining alone doesn't fix grade |
| Crushed or cut pipe | Replace the damaged section | Common after digging for fences or irrigation |
Signs of a problem
- Toilets gurgling when a tub or washer drains
- Several slow drains at the same time
- Wastewater at the lowest drain in the house
- Clogs that come back soon after clearing
Timing notes
A sag tends to show up as clogs that return every few weeks or months. If you're planning yard work, a fence or an irrigation system, know where the sewer line runs before anyone digs. For an active backup, stop running water and call right away.
If you're buying a resale home in one of the subdivisions from the 2000s, ask about past drain problems. A clog that keeps coming back in a fairly new line is one of the clearer hints that a belly or loose joint is sitting somewhere under the lawn.
